When you are at a restaurant ordering something you haven’t tried before, the anxiety always linger, making us think about how it will look like once it hits the table. We have all been there where we got disappointed seeing what we have ordered. It happens because restraint menus do not come with pictures of every single item in it. What if we could see the food listed in the menu on our plate before even ordering it?
Guys at Kabaq also had this thought, and they decided to do something about it. They made an app that can show the user how the food looks on their plate even before the chef prepares it. It is done using the magic of AR, and Kabaq truly embraces it in its entirety.
The Kabaq App uses your smartphone’s camera and sensors to create a sense of space and shows a 3D rendering of food in their actual scale before the user. The user can then move their phone around to see the food from different angles!
Kabaq was started in 2016 and since been experimenting with AR-based solutions to the end user. The current challenge that they have now is to scan every food sample at restaurants to create a 3D image of it. The company is also working on a hardware solution that can scan food with ease.
Kabaq also plans to push this technology towards caterers who provide their services for marriages and other functions. With Kabaq, they can show their clients the entire menu in 3D rendering adhering to its actual scale.
In the company’s own words, “Imagine a wedding cake not just with a picture in a laminated book, but projected in front of the client to show true height and scale. Then, the future couple can see exactly how it will be visualized in their own wedding venue. Or imagine a full spread of salmon crostini. The customer could see how the full spread would appear, then could zoom in through the projection to inspect individual pieces.”
