TUI is a travel company that constantly work towards enhancing the traveling experience of their clients. For this purpose, they have started a trial run of excursions using Augmented Reality (AR) in Mallorca. AR revolutionized the travel industry in 2018, and the effects can still be seen in the new year. This was evident through the Augmented Reality tours that were created to augment the castle of Nafplio in Greece. There were other aspects like virtual travel experiences for the enhancement of the travels of people.

In the same vein, the TUI group is planning round-trip excursions and activities to adapt to the next-generation travelers and appeal to their futuristic minds. For this purpose, they are testing Augmented Reality on various types of excursions and activities in the Palma de Mallorca, a place that hosts countless tourists throughout the year from around the world.

The Head of Innovation of TUI Destination Experiences, Chris Carmichael, shared on this new development saying, “Augmented Reality allows holidaymakers a new, more exciting access to historical facts and stories and takes into account the increasing desire of guests to explore cities and towns on their own. In our experience to date, the spectacles are also comfortable to wear for the user, so that they are not distracted by the actual experience.”

The Augmented Reality glasses enable all travelers to explore the places without losing out on the little details that usually enhance a traveler’s experience. Currently, it is on a trial run, but in the future, they plan to integrate 3D models, videos, photos as well as other interesting information with it. It adds a hint of science fiction and makes the entire experience incredibly interesting for the new age travelers.

The trial run is expected to last for a few weeks in Mallorca, and during this phase, they want to understand how well they can use technology and add value for the users. The Digital Acceleration Director of TUI Destination Experiences welcomes this innovation and shares, “We are delighted to be one of the first providers in the world to offer this technology to our guests. We are convinced that Augmented Reality can significantly enrich excursions and activities and are therefore investing early in this new form of experience.”
