1) Warm up for the game

Let us not forget that Beat Saber is going to make you move, a lot! And this isn’t just the normal linear stuff. You will be ducking and dodging objects, shifting your weight to move out of incoming obstacles, and then your whole arm will be put to use when you aren’t doing the ducking and dodging stuff.

And any athlete will tell you that going straight into a strenuous physical activity takes a massive toll on the body. So, warm up your body with some light physical exercises. Make it ready to take the oncoming beating, and you will be surprised to know how well you can move with a few minutes of warm up.

2) Don’t be shy to use the No Fail mode

The No-Fail mode in Beat Saber keeps your scores hidden from the leaderboards. This means that your scores will not be visible to anyone else but you. It is a great way to practice your skills and to know the game.

So when you are starting out or when you are in your practice sessions, turn on No Fail, and don’t be afraid to fail a few times! It will help you later!

3) Slow songs get you in the grove

When you are starting out, it’s always tempting to go straight with Rap God and Expert+ settings, as YouTubers make it feel so easy. However, starting out with a hard song can break your spirit if you aren’t performing well. The best way forward is to work your way up with easy songs.

This way you will have had the perfect warm up and a no-pressure song to start. After you have honed your skills, you can go on to racking up some serious scores.

4) Get to know how the scoring system works

If you know the system, you will know half the game! Beat Games themselves have revealed how the scoring system works within the game. The major take away is that the scores will depend on the swing angle, and how close you can get to the center of the block while cutting it.

So if you thought you can get away with moving your hands the least, you have been missing out on greater points.

5) Check your Motion tracker

Since now we know how the scoring system works, we know the importance of swing angles and the perfect cut. However, did you know that a poorly optimized motion tracker will turn your perfect cuts into shoddy gameplay?

Motion trackers are not perfect and the environment that they are in effect on how they track your movements. If you think that your movement is not being tracked well, you need to make sure that your motion tracker is working well. Optimize the VR hardware for better motion tracking.

6) Adjust the floor height

Having the obstacles come at you at the right height makes the job of striking them easier. If the floor right is higher or lower than your optimum height, the obstacles, and the blocks will strain you unnecessarily and can cost you dearly when it comes to scores.

7) Practice, Practice, Practice

The problem with many of us is that we look at the final result of the person and wants that for us without knowing the path they have traveled. And that path is paved with practice and persistence.

So you must incorporate that ethos into what you do. Start practicing and understand that you can’t get high scores right away and that you need to practice a lot to build the reaction time and in time, muscle memory.

8) Go Expert Mode, and then Expert+

With higher difficulty comes higher points. You know how to get perfect points with each cut, however, did you know that you can get the scores to multiply if you are in Expert mode and have even more points if you are in Expert+?

After you have gotten the grips of the game, try expert mode with the same song. You will be surprised to know the score boost you get as a result of that.

9) Take breaks in between

Pushing yourself a song after the other in hopes of excelling faster might not be a wise choice. Expert players always make sure to take breaks in between, rehydrating themselves, giving themselves cool down breaks.

You will also see that short breaks give your scores a boost as every time you come back, your body and mind would have gotten time to process and adapt the new information.

10) Have fun with it

You can’t just push yourself to do something that you don’t like. Take your time and have fun with the whole experience. When you do something you love, you won’t feel like you are working.

Play using your favorite songs, test yourself and don’t forget to have a good laugh if you fail, and laugh harder when you see your friend fail!

Bottom line

Climbing up the Beat Saber leaderboards might look like a daunting task, but it is not impossible. With the right approach and a good amount of practice, you can also make the list. A piece of friendly advice is to never get too caught up on it, have fun with it.
