Samsung and BBH London Present an Amazing AR Experience at the IFA 2018

Step inside and take a closer look into the house of Peter Griffin with this AR Experience.

Diving deep into the world of augmented and virtual reality, the South Korean giant Samsung partnered with London based advertising agency BBH to showcase their audience something new and unusual.

On Friday, September 31st at the 2018 Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin, also known as IFA 2018, launched Doorways, which is an augmented reality creation by both the companies. The newly introduced Doorways lets you step inside and take a closer look into the house of Peter Griffin. Yes, you guessed it right, it’s the house of the amazing American sitcom Family Guy, Peter Griffin.

The house of your favorite character is equipped with all the fantastic smart home appliances from Samsung. According to the South Korean giant, “If Peter Griffin can have a smart home, then everyone can.”  Samsung also quoted via its official webpage that they partnered with the Family Guy narrative to bring the magic of a completely networked house with a unique augmented reality experience.

The real voodoo of augmented reality experience kicks in when the attendees point their cameras in the cordoned off display areas of the Doorways. The display walls are wallpapered with special QR codes and when someone points their camera towards it overlays different scenes that feature Peter Griffin, explaining the viewers to interact effectively with the Samsung SmartThings compatible equipment exhibited in the digital scene.

The different homemaking tasks that are showcased in the event includes picking up a playlist, for which the users have to walk up to a Samsung Smart Refrigerator, turn on the Spotify app and simply beam the song to a nearby Samsung SmartTV. Other chores showcased in the Doorways program include the pairing of the Smart TV with the Smart Refrigerator to view it’s content easily, learning how to turn laundry into fun with the Samsung Wi-Fi washing machine and how to switch on an oven.

According to the Chief Creative Officer at BBH London, the concept of the Internet of Things and Smart devices can be mind-boggling for many of the consumers. So by weaving the Family Guy narrative with the Smart appliances can make them understand easily and effortlessly in a much shorter time. He also quoted that Doorways is just a commencement of this unique AR experience.
