Doctor Who Makes Its Way to The World of Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality has left no stones unturned today. It has permeated all kinds of industries as well as domains and has proved its significance in meeting more than one business objective. The latest to bite the bullet is BBC that has released an all-new episode of the much-loved science fiction TV program, Doctor Who in the Virtual Reality dimension for all the fans.

This episode has been named “Runaway” and is an animated episode that is set inside the fictional time machine called Tardis. The viewers/users can play the role of a temporary companion for the good doctor by way of this virtual reality episode. Although this is not the first time that the world has seen an animated episode of Doctor Who, it is the very first for a VR spin on this popular TV show.

There are many interactive elements for the viewers in this episode, including the opportunity to pilot the ship of Time Lord at one instance during the show. That said, the episode is less of a game and more of a scripted drama piece, intended to engage the audience and make the show more interactive for VR lovers. Moreover, the English actress, Jodie Whittaker delivers a witty monologue of a good 13 minutes as a part of the plot of this episode.

BBC VR hub’s head, Zillah Watson is quite pleased with how it worked out. She says that the lively performance of the characters in the episode deserves praise. In her words, the episode is “a magical adventure,” and it “shows the enormous potential virtual reality has for creating new kinds of experiences that appeal to mainstream audiences.”

This latest development in the field of virtual reality and Doctor Who have created quite a stir amidst fans.
